Competition

Throughout Terms 1,2 and 3, children in Year 3 to 6 can participate in the chess competition run by the NSW Junior chess league. Teams compete against other schools in the Hills district, either at home or away games. Teams compete at both at the Rookie and Championship level. The competition caters for expert players as well as children who enjoy playing just for fun. Children need to be available to play on a Friday afternoon and

come to practice one day a week before school. Parents are needed to help supervise home games and also drive teams to away games. In the past, Beecroft Primary School has had many Zone champions. In 2007 the BPS Chess “A team” was Hills District champion.

Leisure Chess

Once a week, children are invited to come along on an informal basis to play chess against each other children at the school. While there are no formal lessons involved, the children learn new moves and discuss tactics.

Each year there is a competition to find the School Junior (Year 3 and 4) and Senior Champion (Year 5 and 6) respectively. A trophy is presented to each champion at Presentation Day.
